Arenal volcano in Costa Rica is most spectacular at night. A frequent cascade of red hot rocks is best photographed with a long exposure. Here an exposure of 30 minutes increases the dramatic effect of the erruption and combines this with star trails. The foreground trees are lit by lights from guest rooms at the observatory lodge.
